Announcement on Recruiting Principal Investigators of Hainan Institute of National Park

Hainan Institute of National Park is a comprehensive research platform and think-tank committed to serving the national park construction and ecological progress in China and the world, with integrated functions of theoretical research, high-end think-tank and forum, international cooperation, talent training, database construction and so on.  

For flexible introduction of global high-level talents to Hainan Institute of National Park (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") and carrying out scientific research projects in 2020, we are recruiting principal investigators from all over the world with details as follows:

I. Research Directions

The Institute currently determines the four key research projects as below:

Project 1: Research on Hainan Gibbon Protection (Project Funding: CNY 5 to 8 million);

Project 2: Research on Restoration of Hainan Gibbon Habitats and Other Tropical Rainforest Ecosystems (Project Funding: CNY 2 to 5 million);

Project 3: Research on Protection of Rare Species of Hainan Gibbons and Construction of the National park in line with international standards (Project Funding: CNY 1 to 3 million);

Project 4: Research on Modern Governance & Management System and Sustainable Development of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park (Project Funding: CNY 2 to 5 million)

Project 1 and 2 can be combined as appropriate, and sub-projects can be set up subject to actual needs and specific circumstances.

II. Recruitment Requirements

1. Basic Requirements

1) Each principal investigator shall be an eminent expert or scholar in the field, and a core researcher of a top university or research institute at home or abroad, or the head of a well-known international organization.

2) Each principal investigator shall possess good character, team spirit and the ability to innovate, overall conscientiousness, professional dedication and strict academic discipline.

1) Each principal investigator shall be able to assure sufficient time and effort will be devoted to the project.

2. Team Composition

1) Each principal investigator should organize his/her own research team in principle, including a foreign co-leader with equally good academic reputation, no less than 5 core members and a consultant team composed of 2 to 3 well-known experts in the same field. (In case the principal investigator happens to be a foreigner, s/he shall seek a Chinese co-principal investigator instead.)

2) The foreign principal investigator and each core member in the team shall be able to participate substantially in the scientific research project, and the consultants shall be able to provide practical guidance in the research.

3) The project shall try to employ researchers from local universities and institutes like Hainan University and Hainan Normal University as possible.

III. Main Responsibilities

Principal investigators are fully responsible for the scientific researches of the projects, including designing the research content, formulating the plan, setting up the team, conducting the process and guaranteeing the quality of research findings.

IV. Recruitment Procedure

1. Registration

1) Registration Period:  May 26 –  June 1, 2020

2) Registration Method: Individuals shall register by sending an e-mail with the subject as ‘Name + Name of the scientific research project’.

3) Registration Materials:

A. Applicants shall download the attachment "Registration Form for Principal Investigator of Hainan Institute of National Park” and fill out completely.

B. ID card, highest certificate of degree /diploma (those who have obtained a degree outside China shall submit the Foreign Education and Degree Recognition Certificate issued by Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of Ministry of Education, qualification certificate for professional/technical posts (or Letter of Appointment), certificate(s) of achievement, appointment document (or Letter of Appointment).

C. Relevant supporting documents for major achievements (representative academic achievements, patent certificates, etc.).

A. A detailed list of team members (including the core research members, foreign co-leader/director and academic consultants) and their academic resumes.

D. Applicants shall submit a "Project Research Plan" outlining the expected goals, research ideas and methods, key difficulties and innovations, sub-project structure and content, research progress and task division of the scientific research to be led.

Documents required in B and C can be scanned copies only.

Each applicant (including team members) can apply for one project only.

2. Announcement

The Institute will announce the evaluation result conducted by an evaluation expert team on its official website, and the duration will be 3 working days.

3. Determining the candidates

Those principal investigators are clear of any major issue of principle shall sign the “Cooperation Contract” with the Institute.  

The Institute can assist the principal investigators and/or their team members in the relevant procedures for talent introduction as per the relevant regulations of Hainan province, if necessary.
